someday, to be able to expand our area to reach other families.

WHEN AND WHY
WAS IT ESTABLISHED? ETAN was established in the spring of 1995. Neal McCoy and his wife, Melinda chose a board of directors, to serve as a governing agency for the network. The purpose of establishing the network was to make funds readily available to families who were experiencing financial difficulties due to the expenses incurred as a result of a child’s illness. It was set up in such a way that “red tape” could be avoided, and funds could be supplied immediately for families to meet expenses while a child was ill or in need of medical assistance. |

The major fundraiser for The East
Texas Angel Network is a benefit concert and golf tournament held in the
fall of each year. Neal McCoy
is always the featured artist for the concert along with many friends from
the music industry and sports world who donate their time because they see
the dedication of Neal and others involved in the network and appreciate
the efforts of the community.
Donations are accepted all year. Also, memorials may be made to the
network and all such memorials are acknowledged to the donor, and to the
family for whom the memorial is made. HOW MUCH OF
THE MONEY ACTUALLY GOES TO THE FAMILIES OR CHILD? The artists, sports figures, and
other special guests who attend DONATE their time. Local hotels donate rooms, local
merchants and restaurants donate food, and the artists pay most
travel. In some instances, it
is necessary to help pay some travel expenses. The only other expenses paid out
of monies raised are for building use, gifts for sponsors and/or
participants, and some stationery supplies. In the spring of 2004 the board
voted to pay the Executive Director a minimal salary to help defray car
expenses and time spent working for ETAN.

HOW MUCH MONEY
MAY A FAMILY RECEIVE? Due to limited funds in the early
days of the organization a cap of $6,000 per year per family was set. The Board hopes to be able to
raise that cap as the funds increase. WHAT DOES THE
NETWORK PAY FOR IF A FAMILY IS DETERMINED TO BE IN
NEED? It is impossible for the network to pay all
medical expenses for a major illness. The network, therefore, determines
the immediate needs of the family and pays bills accordingly. The network has paid house
payments; utility bills; car payments; insurance payments; co-payments on
insurance; travel, food, and lodging for a family with a child in the
hospital. The network has
also paid for conversion of vans for children in wheel chairs, bought
groceries for families when the mother and father have not been able to
work while caring for a sick child.
The things the network can do are not limited. We DO require that a family who
receives cash to cover expenses must keep and return receipts for
expenses.
